    That dealership is not for you. I will say that there are some dealerships out there that urge their techs to do honest work. I can’t say how many of them there are but there are some. Unfortunately you have to search for the right place for you (techs in general). Also that warranty customer who keeps modifying their car, needs to eorher find another place or just stay away from dealers. As a VW tech, anyone who tunes their car, automatically loses their warranty no questions asked. Even if they flash and then unflash it, the systen can detect when it happens and it stays there forever and Vw will not warranty tunes cars.

    This is age old dealership flat rate practice since the beginning of car dealerships. Decades-old practice. There’s always young dummies to hire to replace techs who quit. The cycle goes on and on and takes a shit head asshole to continue to work a career at a dealership in any position but Repair technicians ought to be the ones that stand up and tell the shitheads that don’t know fuck about cars in advisor and sales department that they will only work for salary and stay the fuck away from the shop with their nonsense and their uselessness not knowing how to do any real work in the real world.

    I am sorry to hear you work struggles. You mention the flat rate system as a concern, it is the dealers that use a system that pays disproportionately without a concern for profit sharing or other fair compensation for dealer employees. Those dealers are greedy and arrogant. Look at the other side of their business model with car prices so high nobody will buy them. Many of them will go out of business until they are able to figure it out. Good luck to you.

    It’s the same way in appliance repair. Most of us just kinda ditch the manufacturers, and watch them squirm till they pay better, and they do for a bit, and then attempt to start their own service departments. That fails then they start paying crap again, and then we all bail again.

    Thanks for highlighting this. First, I must say congratulations -🎉to you for improving your educational levels. I am having the same issues with Werner KIA in Tallahassee, Fl. I have a new Telluride with at the time 11,000 miles on it. Suddenly, the passenger wiper fluid jet stops working, and the driver's side followed 2-3 weeks later. I took the car in to have it fixed and to replace the rims with another set I owned. They did the tires and didn't attempt to fix the faulty jets on this new vehicle. I had a20 year old Honda Civic that had the original washer fluid jets that worked well. They gave all kind of excuses, and until today, it's still not fixed. They complained about the warranty, that it's NY fault, that rats may have bitten the wires. All BS. I am still driving this new Kia Telluride and cannot use the wipers.

  • @gabrielmarin4593
    @gabrielmarin4593 День назад

    There’s more to it. Both of the things he talked about here were done by just about every manufacturer ever not just Subaru. And that is not the only reason for FIPG/RTV replacing gaskets. It lasts much longer and is a way of the manufacturer tracking whether or not an engine has been opened for warranty purposes. The factory normally uses a very specific color that is different than what they sell to the public. At first glance it may appear the same, similar, or completely different depending on the brand, but a warranty inspector will typically be sent out when a dealer is doing a warranty claim on an engine failure, and they can tell if it is original or not. Yes, manufacturers take short cuts sometimes to reduce manufacturing costs but that is normally never the sole reason why they change something. It’s just a significant factor. Government regulations are another big factor. Rtv/fipg/every other sealant manufacturers are using does lower manufacturing costs in the long term but it is also used because it is superior to a traditional gasket. That caveat is that installation is easier to screw up for the average bonehead mechanic and it’s generally more time consuming to clean up when doing a reseal. It’s also never as simple as it seems. Mechanics love to harp on engineers because mechanics are normally ignorant and arrogant (at least 95% of the ones I have worked with). Many of them don’t know that there are certain types of sealants that CANNOT be used on certain engines because they can damages catalytic converters and oxygen sensors. How? As the engine heats up, the wrong type of sealant will gas off acetic acid which will end up going through your crankcase ventilation system, into your intake, then through the combustion chamber, and finally through your exhaust system where your oxygen sensors reside. Not generally something you would ever think of when you’re resealing your oil pan, but that’s just one of the million ways that modern vehicles are not at all intuitive. The average mechanic will grab whatever tube of silicone is nearest to them and dump globs of it all over without a care in the world because of flat rate. Thank you Mr. CM Autohaus for exposing the flat rate system that so many people who are not mechanics have not idea about. It gives them a much better idea of why things are the way they are when you take your car to get serviced and helps explain why everybody should stay the hell away from our industry.

    I’m an automotive machinist. Have machined and built many Subaru heads. I know the pains surrounding the time vampire lashing the valves can be. Being in that line of work we often see exactly what is being stated except from the other end. Same head or set of heads (we mark them for our own ID purposes). They needed to be lash when checked the first time through the shop. Nope just PT and mill. Come back in for another PT and mill and valve lash is the same of not worse. Sometimes the exhaust valves and seats get burned because the lash was so tight the valve couldn’t cool. I’ve been cussed out over the phone by one of these dishonest mechanics for not preloading the cam gears before sending the head back to them. My boss back then knew nothing about the details of that situation but was worried. I just told my boss that I would go to the dealership and fix the issue myself in mere minutes. I met the service manager of that dealership explained why I was there and walked with him the the problem vehicle that “sounded like an FN sewing machine” because I didn’t preload the cam gears before sending the heads back. The hot head tech wasn’t so confident with his mouth when I was standing in front of him. He knew he had shit the bed then and there. I simply pointed right at the head bolts directly under the camshafts and asked how anyone expected those cam gears to remain preloaded when the cams have to be removed to torque the head down? That tech knew he had screwed up and he knew the service manager didn’t have the knowledge to know the difference. The truth was instant. That rough tough mechanic was all of the sudden not so. I just looked at him right in front of everyone and told him the next time he screwed up and called our shop cussing people out that I would gladly kill his fn head for it. He had nothing else to say. He knew he had been called out on his bullshit. That service manager walked me out apologizing the entire way. I just advised the service manager to keep that mechanic off of the phone. I still run into that mechanic from time to time. He never had much to say when I’m around.

      @@CMAutohaus Nobody wants globs of RTV plugging up their oil galleys, but if that ever happens I'd point out that your engine is highly likely going to grenade itself while still under powertrain warranty. 900BRZ's extensive testing shows that the RTV issue almost certainly has nothing to do with the highly publicized engine failures, which were instead caused by sticky tires + skilled drivers + hard right turns + high RPM + hot oil + a boxer engine + aftermarket modifications = not enough oil being returned to the sump = pickup running dry = engine go boom. The solution is to overfill for track use by up to 1 liter and maybe consider a higher gear exiting right handers to keep RPMs lower. For very fast setups, you'll need to run an Accusump for track use. Verus Engineering is currently working on a pan/baffle solution that should mitigate the issue. The Killer B baffle doesn't work unfortunately. I don't argue with the fact that anything in the oil pan other than oil is generally bad, and I don't argue that Toyota/Subaru really screwed up in the marketing department, but frankly a few bits of RTV in the pickup aren't sufficient to actually cause oil pressure loss on track. That is beyond dispute at this point, and the original assumption that RTV was the root cause is *false*. I love the service that you're providing and I wish you were my mechanic because you care about what you do and it shows (thank you), but at the same time can we please not throw FUD around if it's been debunked? You're going to cause non-engineer types to freak out. Oil pressure is something that can be actually measured with actual hard data (as opposed to rumor, supposition, and my grandfather's shade-tree wisdom). Most people don't even track their cars, and for those people the RTV issue simply isn't worth freaking out about. If you're taking it to a track, then by all means proceed, but then cleaning out the pickup alone is (maybe?) necessary but definitely not sufficient to keep that engine safe anyhow! Also worth noting that a lot of the blown engines were running a Jackson Racing oil cooler. It seems these can actually cause loss of oil pressure in some cases and that the stock heat exchanger needs to be deleted if using one. Also worth noting that the engine is simply a finicky Subaru engine that is extremely sensitive to being run low on oil, and that it also burns more oil due to inherently higher crank pressures in the boxer design. I would guess that at least some of these failures happened due to the oil being run low, or due to 0w20 street oil being run on a track. So to be sure, these engines DO have oiling issues, but RTV in the pickup seems to be mostly a distraction.

    Nailed it on the head, I also made the stupid decision to become a mechanic and got an apprenticeship at a Toyota dealership and decided to leave after they kept shafting me and never trained me and kept me on servicing only, now im at a good Bosch workshop but im doing part time studies to leave this terrible field, quite a shame coz i enjoy cars but its just not worth it
